It's time for Green Party members and friends to
write and send lots of letters in support of
Green candidates to the editors of local
newspapers, as well as blogs, online community
bulletin boards, community discussion lists, and
other sources of news.
We're one week away from Election Day (November
7), so we need a last minute push for our
candidates.
Keep your letter SHORT -- at most, five or six
sentences. Three or four sentences is ideal.
Newspapers won't run it if it's long. Focus your
letter -- make one or two very strong points.
Use a little humor or be personal ("I have a
family and we can't afford health coverage....").
Positive information about your candidate works
better than negative stuff about the competition.
Include a web site.

Action Center:

Here are some suggestions about what to write....
? Have your local media ignored Green campaigns?
Demand fair coverage. Voters have a right to
make informed choices on Election Day.
? Have your local Green candidates been excluded
from candidates' debates and forums? This is
antidemocratic and a blow to the rights of
voters, who deserve to know about every candidate
whose name will appear on the ballot.
? What distinguishes Green candidates from their
Democratic & Republican competition? If your
candidate is running for local office (city
council, school board, etc.), talk about
important local issues and the candidate's
positions on them rather than big national
issues.
? If you name the Green candidate's opposition
for purposes of comparison, make sure the Green
candidate's name is given greater prominence.
? Don't use 'sample' letters that supporters can
sign their names to and send off to the press.
Editors will toss them in the trash.
Start writing!
