KOHL?S PRIMARY OPPONENT OFFICIALLY ENDORSES VOGELER RUN
Ben Masel, Democratic Party Primary Candidate for U.S. Senate,
Announced Support
Madison, WI - Ben Masel, Sen. Herb Kohl?s opponent in the primary
election announced Friday his endorsement for Green Party U.S. Senate
candidate Rae Vogeler. The announcement was made on A Public Affair,
which airs on WORT FM. ?Today I am officially announcing my
endorsement of Rae Vogeler?s campaign against Senator Herb Kohl,? said
Masel.
Masel ran as a Democratic Party challenger to Herb Kohl in the 2006
Wisconsin Primary. Spending only hundreds of dollars, compared to
more than $3.5 million spent by Herb Kohl, he received over 51,000
votes and over 14% of the vote. A longtime activist concerned with
online free speech, privacy issues and the drug war, Masel said he ran
against Kohl in the primary because he was unhappy with Herb Kohl's
votes for the Iraq war and the Patriot Act
Among the issues that Masel and Vogeler share in common is the urgent
need to bring our troops home from Iraq and end the war. Senator Kohl
twice voted for the War in Iraq, once voting to send our troops to
Iraq and once voting against bringing our troops home, and has
repeatedly rejected setting a time-table for withdrawal. Masel and
Vogeler also criticize Kohl?s vote the Patriot Act, which they argue
nullifies the protections of the U.S. Constitution and intrude upon
basic human rights.
Both Masel and Vogeler labeled Kohl a ?rubber-stamp? on the current
Congress and the Bush Administration, and agree on the need for a
Wisconsin Senator who will stand up for the citizens of Wisconsin.
?For too long Kohl has proven that he stands for nothing, least of all
the citizens of Wisconsin, and this needs to change,? Vogeler said.
?He refuses provide any oversight of this administration or look out
for his constituents. It?s time to take away his rubber stamp, and
elect a senator that will stand up for Wisconsin.?
This week the campaign also received the support of Libertarian U.S.
Senate write-in candidate David Redick, and endorsements of three
Wisconsin newspapers: the Lake Mills Leader, Cambridge News and
Deerfield Independent. Vogeler also has endorsements of the Wisconsin
Green Party, Progressive Democrats of Wisconsin, Progressive Dane,
Green Women?s Caucus, and individuals across Wisconsin. For a
complete list visit www.voterae.org.
