Mike Palecek is becoming one of the underground/alterantive press's =20
hot items, and he's setting out on a cross-country tour to talk about =20
his most recent book - "American Dream." During the tour, he'll be =20
sporadically writing a newsletter (the first three of which will be =20
posted following this message ...)
MIKE PALECEK, author of "The American Dream"Sunday, April 15, 2007
3:30-5:00 pm
Iowa City Public Library, Room A
Mike Palecek is a former federal prisoner for peace, small-town =20
newspaper reporter editor and publisher, and author of Looking for =20
Bigfoot, Terror Nation?Notes from the Perimeter, and The Last Liberal =20
Outlaw.
Mike?s new novel, The American Dream, tells the story Michael M, who =20
works in a group home in the small town of Homeland in middle America. =20
Mike is an average guy who graduated from Homeland High School, =20
married a Homeland girl and had Homeland kids. Mike wants nothing =20
more than to win the drawing for The Home Helper Show so he can get a =20
new kitchen and maybe a pool. An improbably accident lands him in =20
jail as the ringleader of terrorist activities in Homeland. Mike is =20
clueless about the whole thing, believing what he?s told, believing =20
what he wants to believe. Please join us, as Palacek shares his =20
vision of what American could become ? absurd, shocking and =20
terrifying, just like Homeland.

"It has been many years since I picked up a book and didn't put it down til=
l
I finished it. Mike Palecek's "The American Dream" smacks you right
between the eyes with every turn of the page. This book tells the
God-awful truth that none of us wants to accept."

"No more than a few degrees from what currently passes for reality,
'The American Dream' is a societal vision that hits too close to
home(land) to be called a futuristic satire. Channeling both Orwell
and Bill Hicks, Mike Palecek has created more than a powerful and
engaging novel; he has let loose a global wake-up call."

"Mike Palecek writes with passion, wit, and always with a profound
social conscience."
