[Iowa-dx] Nuclear Exploitation of Global Warming

Last night, Sunday April 8, CBS (Channel 2) aired on the
program 60 Minutes a tirade promotional about France
building the world's supply of "new" nuclear reactors.
Heavy in this program was the information about global
warming and how France has the "cleanest air" in all of
industrialized Europe because 80% of its electricity is
produced by French nuclear power plants, and they are
calling it "green electricity".
Then there was a plug about General Electric's nuclear
power plant manufacturing business, here in our USA.
They promoted that there are 15 nuclear power plant
manufacturing companies in the world, and that here in
our USA there are 30 projects either "on the drawing
board" or planned and in the process of obtaining
construction permits.
Completely absent in all of this dishonesty is the fact that
there are about a half dozen gases that are much more
nuclear-potent than radon, that is released to the
atmosphere in each of the several stages of production
of nuclear fuel, as well as radon gas being released in
those proceses.
Completely absent is the fact that there is no known
method of containing nuclear waste for storage for the
required couple million years that nuclear waste goes
through its "half-lives", nor of protecting it from warfare
use as a stolen contaminant weapon, that could be
acquired by warring enemies. This is not as scary as the
fact that there is no known method of nuclear waste
containment that lasts longer than 40 YEARS !!!!! You
see, nuclear activity breaks down the molecules of
concrete and steel, until these kinds of containers fail
and proceed to leak their contents.
Further, General Electric owns CBS television networks,
and, consequently, GE owns the news-investigative
program 60 Minutes. It is obvious that, in the few years
since GE purchased CBS, 60 Minutes has become greatly
watered-down and less-investigatory in its news
production. Just as in this program, the most important
questions about any program are not asked. And, since
GE is the LARGEST manufacturer in the world, engaging
in US military contracts that are so secret that there is
not even any accounting for the individual contracts OR
for how much the government pays GE for those
contracts, their nuclear reactor manufacturing operation
is probably equally above "top secret". My father had a
Q-Clearance, which is several levels higher than the mere
"top secret" clearance.
All political action groups for grass-roots Democracy must
be alert to and ready to protest against any nuclear
power plant construction anywhere within our nation. We
have not had one nuclear power plant constructed - - in
fact several have been shut down and decommissioned - -
during the past 30 years. However, there is now obviously
an onslaught of public propaganda promotions and
legislative lobbying going on right now, to exploit the new
awareness of both greenhouse gas pollution and of global
warming. And the target of such propaganda is the naive
public, trying to gain public support for going nuclear.
Nuclear energy is not clean in the least... nothing that
comes in close proximity to radiation, including the product
and later the waste containers it is put in, escapes the
process of contamination, except for absolutely pure water,
which is a rare element. Even the technicians' work gloves
and gowns must be disposed of as nuclear waste.
I have given Holly Hart a copy of the second edition of the
League of Women Voters' booklet on nuclear energy, which
is now out of print. The Department of Energy tried to get
LOWV to return all of its copies and agree not to print any
more when it learned that DOE, itself, had provided all of the
information in the booklet through public access means, and
was astonished that any of that information had been printed.
Now, LOWV has distributed as many copies as it had and is
not printing any more. It is essential to THE GOVERNMENT
that the public not receive any more of that information.
What I have told you is only a small, minute bit of the
information contained in that book. We must all vigorously
publically oppose any notion of constructing new nuclear
power plants ANYWHERE on our planet, and of obtaining any
possible laws to prohibit the transportation of nuclear waste
in or through our state. This is a serious issue.
We must all work together on this.
