IOWA HOUSE TO TAKE ACTION ON TARGETED SUDAN DIVESTMENT

We have been advised that the Iowa House will call up HF 807 on the
targeted Sudan divestment this afternoon.

SF 361, which passed the Senate last week, will then be substituted for
HF 807 and debate will begin.  Please send one last email or make one
last phone call to a member of the House asking them to support
targeted Sudan divestment.

With the Iowa Senate’s unanimous passage of the targeted Sudan
divestment last week, the momentum to enact this legislation is growing
every day.  We need your help one more time!  Please send one last
email or make one last call asking your Representative to support this
important legislation.  If you have already contacted your Representative,
feel free to contact another.

Points to make with the House:

Politely ask the Representative to support HF 807/SF 361.  Targeted
divestment gives Iowa and other states an opportunity to send the
message that we will not support genocide.

Seven states have already begun divestment efforts and over 20 more
have legislation pending.  We can make a difference.

The bill targets a small group of companies that do not provide goods and
services to the Sudanese people.  This bill puts the pressure squarely on
the government and companies whose investment has allowed them to
carry out the genocide.   This legislation protects our public pension
funds’ investment returns.   This is not a Democrat or Republican issue—it
is an Iowa issue.  This bill passed the Iowa Senate 50-0.
