Today I attended the Johnson County Democratic Party Caucus in
Old Brick. I arrived at 11:00 a.m. before anybody else, and set up
my anti-war poster signs by stapling them on their handles, and I
then began a one-man parade up and down the sidewalk on
Market Street in front of the Old Brick, just as the event was
being prepared to open up. I brought my "Speaking Out", my
"Devil Poster" (Impeach Now), and my "Republicommunist George"
posters. And I wore my green jacket, green tee-shirt, and my
green Green Party hat with the Green Party button on it.

By about noon time, the others from the U of I Anti-war Committee
showed up, and we set up a nice but small display on the corner
of Market and Clinton. Then, after a half hour, the others went
inside to see if they could get their anti-war protest signs inside.
And a half hour later, as I had remained to mark the location to
the public, I also joined them. Good thing I did, I was able to
partake of some excellent chili and corn bread later on, my only
lunch.

I was most impressed with Senator Christopher Dodd's excellent
oration that came from the heart. A few times, as Dodd made
his critical remarks on the Bush administration and the war, I
shouted out "Impeach now!" I think he really deserves a chance
at the U.S. presidency. I was also impressed by the speaker for
Senator Barack Obama. Because Obama could not attend, he
sent his representative who did an excellent historic background
on Obama's civil rights and constitutional rights work before and
after the Republicans manipulated their way into prominence, in
addition to Obama being against the war from the very start.

Although I really think Joe Biden's son did an excellent job of
representing his father, and also John Edwards' speaker did a
much better job campaigning than has Edwards, I think on
the whole that I would have to say the real contest here in
Iowa would be between Obama and Dodd. Hillary Clinton
needs to get her staff working in conjunction with her
campaign if she is to make any headway here in Iowa, I will
tell you that! It seems much too superficial to me.

When Dave Loebsack was given copious kudos by the
organizer as a very long introduction, that is when the
U of I Anti-war Committee kicked in with several loud
chants, one of which was "Loebsack react... we can't wait
unitl two-thousand eight!" The organizer came over and
tried to keep the group quiet, which only lasted until
Loebsack finished speaking and then the protestors read
the riot act by more and louder chanting as they filed out
of Old Brick.

All in all, I was quite satisfied with this tiny caucus.
