I think where David is coming from is the position that it is easier
to trust a snake acting like a snake than a snake acting like a sheep.
The snake (the GOP) makes no bones about it, is consitent in their
lying behavior, and follows predictable lines of reasoning that can be
countered.

The Democrats on the other hand pretend that they are the opposition
party in spite of the fact that so many of them rolled over for the
neo-con agenda of the GOP. They claim to be a party of the people
while embracing folks like Joe Lieberman, who did not hesitate to stab
his party and the people of his state in the back when it came to
keeping his job.

I am finding it much easier to mobilize progressives to oppose the GOP
agenda than to oppose the Democratic agenda. When I point out that
their agendas are only a few degrees of separation apart from each
other they counter with the old line about "if we don't unite behind
the Democrats we will get another 4 years of <insert GOP candidate
here>."

Unfortunately, otherwise intelligent and engaging people in the
progressive movement become obedient robots when this line is used.

Thus...like David, I trust the GOP more than the Democrats. I would
much rather have someone look at me and call me an son of a bitch to
my face than to put their arm around me and try to convince me that
they are my friend while they work against my issues.
