Hope to see you there.
Ruth Weill in Wisconsin helping out her friends down south. :)
*What Every Green Candidate Should Know.* After the 2004 election, the
national Green Party's Coordinated Campaign Committee (CCC) compiled a
checklist of things candidates and their campaign committees should know,
based on a questionnaire circulated to recent Green candidates. Brent
McMillan will take participants through this checklist along with handouts
and additional information.
*Fundraising for Candidates.* The best person to do fundraising for a
campaign is the candidate. This workshop is for both those that are
considering running for office for the first time and those who have run
before.
*Working with the Media. *This workshop will explore building relationships
with people in the
media and how to get more coverage. Topics will also include: how to write
a press release, what is the difference between a press release and a press
advisory, and how to structure and deliver your message.
*Get Out the Vote (GOTV).* This workshop was originally developed by John
Funchion, who worked for Paul Wellstone before becoming involved in the
Green Party of Rhode Island. The workshop is the basis for the GOTV
Campaign Manual that is available for download off the CCC webpage (see
www.gp.org/committees/campaign for that.)
*Petitioning.* Petitioning is not just about collecting signatures; it is
also about making sure that we have our i's dotted and our t's crossed when
the petition packets are turned in. We will talk about how to petition, but
the main focus will be on submitting forms properly, how to make
corrections, details about notarization, etc.
*How to Run a Large Meeting.* Ruth Weill, co-chair of the national party's
Annual National Meeting Committee, has extensive experience putting together
large meetings, including the 2004 National Convention in Milwaukee. With
the 2008 National Convention coming to Chicago, this is an even more
important workshop for Illinois Greens!
*Electric Cars.* Todd Martin, an ILGP member in Elgin, has offered to drive
his plug-in electric car to Crystal Lake and give a presentation about the
feasibility of electric cars. Everyone who was dismayed by the movie *Who
Killed the Electric Car?* may be surprised to learn that there is active
electric car group in the Chicagoland area!
