Coming up in and around Iowa City -
The Israel Lobby & U.S. Foreign Policy
John Mearsheimer
Monday, October 15, 2007 7:00 PM
Room W10 at the Pappajohn Business Building, University of Iowa
John Mearsheimer, Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science
at the University of Chicago, will discuss The Israel Lobby and U.S.
Foreign Policy, which he co-authored with Stephen Walt of Harvard's
John F. Kennedy School of Government. The book is one of the most
politically volatile books of the year, "slamming into the
opinion-making world with a Category 5 force" (NY Times Magazine). The
argument that Mearsheimer and Walt make is that the US provides a
remarkable level of both material and diplomatic support to Israel,
and that this level of support cannot be fully explained on either
strategic or moral grounds. This event is co-sponsored by Prairie
Lights Bookstore and the Bose Lecture Series at the University of
Iowa's Department of Political Science.
