What you just said is exactly what got me in trouble with the railroad.I
am probably the only reader of Business Week who had twoletters to the
editor that were published in consecutive weeklyissues, while I was in
the Army but on railroad furlough for militaryduty.  When I "ETS'ed" out
of the Army in February 1974, in thesuperintendent's office after signing
back up for active employeestatus, I was sent to the Road Foreman of
Engines' office before Icould "mark back up" with the crew dispatcher.=20
RFE Robertsthen told me that I had caused a lot of trouble with my
publishingabout the Penn-Central Railroad bankruptcy and of my supportfor
Judge Klitenick's ruling on railroad mergers, among other lettersthat I
had published, and that I can have a good career andretirement if I kept
my nose clean, "... and no more publishing!" My agreement not to write
editors lasted two years, and that ledto my eventual removal from service
in 1988 over a safety and rulesviolation that I refused to commit under
adamant instructions by theterminal officers that I must make the
move, who later backed meup in testimony in my hearing, but I was fired
over the incident in1993 without ever being allowed to go back to
