"We're victims in this too, don't blame us," oil industry chiefs told a
sleepy U.S. Congress. "Look to the consumers for not buying gasoline at
the lowest priced gas stations! It's the consumers' loyalty that is at
fault, they're fueling the price rises by buying only from their favorite
gas stations, they need to support our conspiracy by buying only from our
gas stations so we can run all of the independents out of business!=20
Blame the Democrats for bringing this issue to the public awareness in
the first place!"
"Here! Here!" called out Republican legislators, smugly looking at each
other for shared mutual approval. "What's good for the oil companies is
certainly good for us here in Congress!"
But the rising cycle of profits has been going on way too long, suggested
U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, Democrat from the Republicommunist
state of Missouri. "The anger level is rising significantly."
Representative Cleaver then referenced the fact that in the eyes of most
of the public, Congress often does not receive a very high in opinion the
public polls, and Cleaver said to the executives: "Your approval rating
is lower than ours, and that means you're down low."
Republicans then took their shoes off and pounded the railings in front
of their seats as they hooted scornfully at the Representative's remarks
about the country's five biggest oil companies. "The oil executives said
last Tuesday that they realize how record fuel prices are hurting people,
you heard them," scornfully accused one Republican Representative, "but
that's not good enough for you, is it? You have to resort to 'conspiracy
theories' for the mild problems in our economy!"
No matter how they argued, Republicans claimed that in spite of the
Democratic Party's prejudiced partial partisans about the oil
industry, it's not their fault, and their huge profits are typical
of other monopolistic trust-law violating companies that still remain in
our USA that have not yet relocated to other anti-Democratic nations of
poverty and no civil rights.=20
