Rick, I'm very sorry to hear about your health issues , but glad you caught=
the problem in time - take care of yourself! Mixing politics with bklood =
pressure can indeed be a challenge...
FYI, the media coordinator is not actually an elected position, although we=
obviously did approve of whomever we've had as media coordinator. Since t=
his is something that requires certain interests and/or skills, the person =
is usually in the job for as long as they want and the rest of the members =
want to keep them there. (We've also been without a media coordinator at t=
imes, which is obviously not an ideal situation.)
I hope someone will want to take on that blog. This can be a potentially =
nice way for "at large" Iowa Greens to connect; one thing I hear repeatedly=
is that these people feel isolated. Also, one thing that seems to be crit=
ical in whether people become more active is if they can plug into a nearby=
chapter; and if there isn't one, perhaps a "virtual chapter" is still good=
-
Holly

Subject: [Iowa-dx] Media Coordinator Position open soon!
A reminder that the State Media Coordinator position will come open on
June 1 of this year. At our State Meeting next month we will need to
elect/appoint a coordinator to take over this important work. I will
be happy to work with the new person to insure a smooth transition, but
I will only have until July 1 of this year to spend much time for that,
so the transition will need to move at a brisk pace. This should not
be a problem if we coordinate things properly.
Also, due to health reasons I will be stepping back for a time from an
active role in the Green Party. A recent visit to the doctor showed a
problem with my blood pressure that, if not corrected soon, could lead
to some long term problems. Having lost several blood relatives to
stroke I am taking this warning seriously. Fortunately the problem can
be corrected with a combination of medicine, diet and "lifestyle
change", so I should be able to return to activity in the GP down the
road.
Finally, the blog "Being Green in Iowa" is looking for new blood and
perhaps new direction. As I have had to lessen my activity with it, the
blog has become stagnant and ineffective as a tool for reaching out to
progressives in our state. Put bluntly, it needs help. If anyone is
interested in taking this over please let me know. To be an effective
tool it should be updated at least twice a week with fresh material.
Details and assistance on operating the blog are available for those
interested.
See you in Iowa City in May!
