Resolved Question:
------------------

If 67% of Americans are considered overweight shouldn't we change the
scales?

If only 2% of the population actually looks like the fashion models are
we striving for an unattainable goal of beauty?

In clarification, when I said scales, I was really considering the
standards. Anything over 50% constitutes a majority. When we look at the
standards, be it in your physician=92s office or from the media, there are
factors they don't take into consideration, like ethnicity or region.
Plus the range of optimal size is quite small. Since the weight lost
industry took over in the 70's, you would think we were purposely
creating low self-esteem for the sake of uniformity.

I agree that our sedentary lifestyles coupled with our poor eating habits
could be considered serious factors towards obesity, but today's obesity
is yesterday=92s opulence

I do not know what you mean by "change the scales". Also, "America" is a
vertical hemisphere almost 300 years older than is our nation "United
States OF America", that little word "of" referring to the HEMISPHERE of
America, not to our nation!

We have the body weight mass index to go by. It is not the desire of
society to have "skinny fashion models" but rather the so-called
"fashion" businesses!

The reason why people in our nation are overweight is because of our
introverted indulgence into the consumer society. We are economic
prostitutes and consumer slaves due to our very stupidity.

Our government is controlled by commerce, so we are encouraged to NOT eat
properly. Everything now is totally commercially produced, not REAL food!
Housewives once actually cooked meals with real food! Now they buy
processed foods laden with salt, sugar, fats and carbohydrates, all of
the UN-NATURAL non-food ingredients we are now brainwashed and addicted
to want.

Couple to that the mental activities we people generally subscribe to,
using computers for entertainment and work, eschewing even raking the
leaves because it seems (now) to be so undesireable and bothersome.
People hire gardeners to do their yard work! People drive their cars two
blocks once a week to the city grocery maul rather than walking every day
to the local neighborhood grocery store, which is what housewives once
did.

Worse, our people are addicted to "fast-food" drive-throughs with their
high fat, high cholesterol, high sugar (particularly in drinks and
desserts), high fat contents. I really got a hoot out of the television
commercial that was taken off the air a few years ago due to a lawsuit
from Wendies, "I would like to order 1300 calories of super burger, 800
calories of fries, and 500 calories of sugar water!" "Okay, ma'am, that
will be 2600 calories at the window, please."

Too bad that Subway was required by the lawsuit to take its advertisement
off the air as "character defamation" that was injurious of fast food
"restaurants" !!! Asker's Rating: 5 out of 5

Asker's Comment: Well thought out answer.

Thank you
