As Johnson County Green Party liaison to the University of IowaAnti-war
Committee as well as a general member of UIAC for abouttwo and a half
years, on Thursday evening, August 14 at 6:30 p.m.Daylight Stupid Time, I
attended the second post-summer meeting ofUniversity of Iowa Anti-war
Committee at the Iowa City PublicLibrary, room E. Loralei Barth was the
meeting facilitator, getting her experience inmanaging this meeting with
a very good standing. As her confidencein participating in this capacity
adds to her knowledge, her confidenceand capabilities surely will grow
with her, and I expect her to continuebecoming more involved in other
groups' activities and in Green Party,as she becomes a part of the civil
rights advocacy field, a field inwhich her mother has been so involved
with herself. Most of the meeting was focused on UIAC business, so I will
notreport on that aspect. Due to the Uof I campus flood damage, a new
meeting location isstill pending. I informed the meeting that my inquiry
and inspectionof Wild Bill's cafe in the North Hall (formerly which was
an elementaryschool portion of the old high school building) was changed
from theway I remembered it. There are different tables not as
comfortableand nice, taking up more room in the eating area, so I
recommendednot using it. Wild Bill's is presently closed, and will not
reopen untila few weeks from now. Discussion about the Uof I "club fair"
brought promotionalconsiderations about UIAC. Discussion also focused on
a SemesterOpener, with possible activities that may invite other groups
andorganizations to participate, co-sponsor, or join in with UIAC. On
this Saturday, August 16 at 5 p.m., Wild Rose Rebellion, theanarchists
and anti-authoritarian group, will hold a discussion ontravel plans to
the Democratic Party National Convention protestsin Denver, Colorado, and
to the Republican Party NationalConvention protests in Saint Paul,
Minnesota. Carpooling and apossible bus that may ONLY CHARGE $10 ROUND
TRIP willbe discussed, but nothing is firm on the bus trip yet. People
For Justice In Palestine representative Julie repeated thatPJP is showing
"Iron Wall" again on August 26th in the Iowa CityPublic Library at 7
p.m., in Room A. It shows how the Israeligovernment has built the wall
all around and within Palestine, whichis making it impossible for a
two-state solution to thePalestinian-Isreali issue. On August 31 at 1
p.mn., at the Old Brick Peace Center (locatedon the northwest corner of
Market and Clinton) David Rovics willappear in a presentation on the
anniversary to the atomic bombingof Hiroshima. Another horrible historic
fact about our nation!
