According to the McKinney campaign's FEC compliance person, the campaign has
until September 2 to reach a donation threshold upon which the campaign
would be eligible to receive FEC matching funds. TYhis woudl give the
campaign a financial boost unprecedented in the Green Party, and rare in
progressive party campaigns.
To get the matching funds, the candidate needs to receive at least $5000
from each of 20 states, with the first $250 of any donation geing applied
toward that threshold.
I was recently surprised to see Iowa listed as one of the states within
possibility of achieving the $5000 goal. I was less surprised to learn that
Iowans would need to come up with $4700 to reach the goal, but then realized
that there are over 100 people on this list; and at least two other cities
in the state with large email lists; and a couple other cities have
distribution lists, as well.
So I figured, why not give this a try - if everyone on the Johnson County
list donated $25, Iowa should be within about $1900 of the goal. If folks
on the Linn and Polk County lists did the same, we'd reach the goal or come
close to it, and if folks elsewhere in the state did the same, we should
reach $5000.
Some people here have alreayd donated the limit, and some don't have funds
to donate (or donate again), but others may be able to donate $50, $100 or
more.
It's worth a try - go to www.runcynthiarun.org and go to the "Donate" link -
why not see what we can do?!
