And I remember the Public Broadcast Service interview on the
Jim Lehrer News Hour shortly after Robyn McNeal retired from
the program.
One of the regulars interviewed recent "citizens" (more properly
called "natizens" since a citizen is a member of a city or a
city state) who had just taken their oaths and received their
"citizenship" papers. The process of going through Democracy
classes and classes on "citizenship" were covered by the news
broadcaster.
One such new "citizen" was from Czechoslovakia, if I remember
correctly, was asked what he thought about Democracy, now that
he was a US "citizen". He replied obstinately, "I don't think
that people should have the right to tell the government what
to do!"
I was astonished!
