Watergate, White Watergate, Bagdad Gate and now Spygate have barged right
into the news, and now has become a nemises like a huge boil right on the
cheek under the eye! The NFL's Commissioner Roger Goodell could not hide
from the controversy, and he knows that now.
NFL's Roger Goodell says, I don'teven know what the hell you're eventalking
about, as if I would destroy tapes of sports cheating!"
He has on many occasions now had to explain why he chose to destroy his
notes and videotape records that are now part of the New England
Patriots' new cheating scandal. But now reporters want to know if George
Bush and the CIA were involved in helping him to cover up the Patriots'
alleged cheating activities.
"I think there are very good explanations for the reason why I destroyed
the tapes or had them destroyed by our staff," Goodell explained. "They
were totally consistent with what the team told me. And no, there was no
involvement with George Bush or the CIA. CIA had no reason to want a
team with their name winning the Super Bowl. That was not it. And
George Bush is not smart enough to think of a plot like that! Why would
you think he asked the CIA to help me? We just got caught catching the
Patriots doing what all bad little boys do when they play sports, and
there's nothing to it! They're bad little boys!"

purpose for them. I believe it would have been helpful for them to advise
us in making sure our instructions were followed closely, they know how
to do those sneaky things, but they didn't need to teach anyone how to do
those in professional sports, not by not only the Patriots, but also by
every other team. I think it was the appropriate thing to do. Our
discipline sent a loud message ... we don't cheat, we just create our own
leagues controlled successes! The action that we took was decisive and
it was unprecedented, and bad little boys got spanked. There is no
politics in a team winning the Super Bowl. This wasn't the Texas
Rangers, Bush isn't involved here!"
Goodell defended himself by saying that one of the six tapes made either
in 2006 or 2007 preseason periods was given to the news media before he
had all of those tapes be destroyed. "They may have collected it within
the rules, but we couldn't determine that. So we felt that it should be
destroyed," Goodell said.
Not everyone believed that, however. Senator Arlen Specter, Republican
for Pennsylvania, countered that even as a Republican, Goodell's
explanation, "didn't make any sense at all." Specter said, "If they are
under lock and key at the NFL headquarters, they aren't going to be
available at all," he said in Philadelphia, and Spector unwittingly posed
the question for reporters to consider: so who knows what really
happened, just like the election results in 2000 and 2004?
This issue began when security officials of the NFL became alerted to,
and confiscated a video camera with video tape from an employee of the
Patriots, who was videoing while the game was going on. Even before the
New England Patriots beat the New Jersey Jets with a score of 38 to 14 in
that pre-season game, the NFL security officials said they had caught the
Patriots employee focusing his camera in on the Jets defensive coaches
while they were making signals and signs for plays to their players on
the field, but they did not know they were not supposed to do their duty
to catch the Patriots employee doing so. That is when it is claimed that
George Bush asked the CIA to intervene to help the Patriots out, so his
plot would look good.
Instead, the NFL commisioner fined coach Belicheck $500-thousand and the
Patriots team $250-thousand and cancelled the Patriots'
scheduled first-round draft pick for the next year. Goodell had levied
the largest fine for a coach's misbehavior and the very first draft-pick
suspension in the history of the sport. Goodell explained, "It sent a
loud message to not only the Patriots, but every NFL team that you should
follow the rules and you better follow the rules," Goodell said. "That
should end this business about the CIA being involved in any way. The
CIA would have had somebody shot by a hitman if they had been involved in
this, or George Bush would have had Meadowlands be bombed!"
