I may take some sharp-edged flack for saying this, but we have toconsider
the impact of our Green Party association with supportingsame-sex
marriage and how the general public regards homosexuality. I do not,
myself, accept the notions proferred about same sex rightsto marriage.=20
However, we must look at the following two facts: 1) During the past
decade, "same-sex" couples have been gravitatingto join our Green Party
in noticeable numbers. This is becauseONLY our Green Party -- among all
of the other political parties inour nation -- has grass-roots Democracy,
REAL Democracy, in itsparty platform. "Same-sex-orientation people" are
citizens too, and they are humanbeings who have been treated in inhuman
retributional ways by reallyhomophobic "straights". Therefore,
"same-sex-orientation people"are a major component in our party, and the
public notices this. WhatI mean is that all around the nation, common
people are beginning tocall Green Party the party of homosexuals; don't
counter me on this,I've heard it in several states on the several
occasions that I'vevisited Green Party and other organizations in other
states, and Ibecame involved in conversations away from Green Party
people, such as in bus terminals and coffee shops where people told me
this! 2) It has been demographically assessed that anywhere from 10% to15%
of any human population is composed of "same-sex-orientationpeople".=20
That means that "same-sex-orientation people" are in theextreme minority,
and it does not make any difference what race oreconomic status people in
the public are, most people do notapprove of homosexuality, even though
many people believe in a"live and let live" relartionship with
homosexuals. Therefore, whenanyone makes a public action as a "public
representative" such aswas done by Jason West to perform
"same-sex-orientation people"marriage as an official act, it flies in the
face of everything we havedone to build our public image as Green Party.
I think we need to separate two functions, one to be endorsedand the
other to be shunned:a) we need to stick to supporting our Ten Key Values
and not gooff on "tangents" of other directions, such as performing civil"s=
ame-sex-orientation
people" marriages,b) and we need to promote our party platform by
pursuing actswhich fall in line with our Ten Key Values and our Party
Platform, which will eventually catch the attention of the public to the
pointthat we encourage the public to join us. If we do not, then we will
suffer the same "falling-out" and even muchWORSE... discourage people
from joining us to the point that wegarner much adverse publicity... if
we do not consider the mainstreampublic sentiments. Ron Kinum a.k.a.

A Young Politician Becomes a House Painter

By SARI BOTTON
The New York Times, February 19, 2008
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/19/nyregion/19west.htm

On a late January morning, Jason West was under
the weather and late for work. Sniffling and
weary from nights of sleeping on a friend=92s floor
in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the former mayor of the
Village of New Paltz showed up at a building on
West 60th Street, where he was on a job, in
paint-splattered jeans and a work shirt.

=93I hate painting with a passion,=94 Mr. West said
as he struggled to move a wobbly,
knickknack-packed entertainment center from a
wall he was about to slather with off-white
latex. =93I would rather be doing anything than
painting right now.=94

Not too long ago, he had been.

Mr. West, 30, first drew attention in 2003, when
at 26 he became the first member of the Green
Party to be elected mayor in New York State. But
it was the next year when he created a furor for
performing same-sex marriages that were later
declared illegal =97 which may have led to his
current occupation and his summer stint
bartending at a Dutchess County watering hole
called Darby O=92Gills. ...//...
