Morgan, it wasn't Green Party members who called us the party ofhomosexuals,
it was people from the general public!
On this issue of our party's image, let the warning already documentedbe
heeded about the public's view of our Green Party... I have runinto these
negative counter-statements at least a dozen times during2007! The news
article on Jason West was an eye-opener we cannotignore! Let me put it
this way. Consider our actions in our political party asbeing a row boat
in a rough ocean sea, with high choppy storm wavesof public opinion about
us tossing our boat around one mile out fromthe jetty, behind which jetty
are the public offices we aspire to becomeelected to. If we disregard
public sentiment against our actions ofperforming "same sex orientation
marriages", as opposed to focusingon standing for the issues of civil and
Constitutional rights -- not tomention human rights -- then that is like
a lot of us standing up in thebucking row boat and our foolishness
rocking the boat until it fills upwith water and sinks. There are times
when we must NOT BE SELFISH and instead wemust all sit down in the boat
so as not to rock it until its gunwalesdip down into the water to swamp
us. Similarly, we must face issuessuch as performing -- not defending
but performing -- activities thegeneral public overwhelmingly does not
approve of. It is like areal-life chess game with much more importance
and consequencesthan in a mere chess game! We must use reason to win
support from the public in the face of thepublic's documented opposing
sentiments. That means we must, byand between ourselves, find ways of
our cooperating togetherstrategically, so that we do not entice adverse
public sentiments thatwill brand us and condemn us in our minority
status, which is whathappened to Jason. I sincerely doubt that Jason
West will everagain be mayor of his city or of any future political
office in his area. Our political and social strategies for our party are
serious aspectsfor public-interactive considerations. Like the old
saying, if youspit at society, society is much bigger and will spit right
back at youwith more volume! Can I make my warning any more clear? It
does not matter what emotional and prejudiced viewpoint weexpress in
favor of our beliefs and convictions. When the generalpublic is opposed
to something, we must recognize that fact anduse alternate strategies to
encourage reason. Jason did not dothat, and not only Jason's political
career but our overall GreenParty's reputation has suffered as a result
of that. When we takethe road to opposition with public sentiment, we
must always doso INTELLECTUALLY. It is of no use to shoot a hole in ourrow=
boat's
hull just to take a position the public very adamantlywill not support,
even though it is not a total disapproval forcertain issues about "same
sex orientation" unions. Rememberthe old addage about the bull in the
china shop! We can ruinour own party -- indeed I believe we already have
in certaininstances -- by not recognizing when "spitting into the wind"
isnot adviseable. Ron Kinum a.k.a. Libris Fidelis

If that 10-15 percent joined the Green Party, the party of LGBTIQ,
the same party that is the peace party, the same party that is the
environmental party, the same party that is the ecology party, the
same party that is the party of grassroots democracy, the same party
that is the party of social and economic justice - that 10-15 percent
would make the Green Party viable just all by itself with those
numbers.
I have never heard any Green or anyone in any of the many venues I've
been that say that the Green Party is the party of homosexuals.
...//... Jason West's efforts were courageous and outrageous (in a
positive sense). It was fascinating to watch. Who would have ever
thought it of the young man and who would have thought where it was
to go.
A party on the bottom needs to fight to rise with every possible,
created or seized upon opportunity.
I do not agree that LGBTIQ or *homosexual* gives the party a bad
image. IMO the LGBTIQ is one of the most successful human rights
movements in this era. I only wish there was a women's movement and
that it was as successful ...//...
