as he stood guard outside of a Congressional warcrimes council
checkpoint.
But presidential candidate John McCain rejected Wednesday a measure
setting up a Republican war crimes detention center for convicted
administration and cabinet members. It is seen as a key step to
re-develop USA's nascent democracy -- in the latest setback to Democratic
Party-backed national reconciliation efforts.
The Congressional panel approved the US 2008-2009 Republican PartyWar
Crimes Tribunal budget and another law that provides limited amnesty to
Congressional supporters of the war who are now in federal custody.
The war crimes laws were approved as a package by the Green Party of the
US majority party on February 13, a suitable day for war crimes
adjudications. The approval drew praise from the McKinney administration,
which had sought passage of a provisional Republican Party War Crimes
Tribunal powers law as one of several enactments that promote
reconciliation with the rest of the nations in the world and in the
United Nations.=20
