                      ISRAEL/PALESTINE RESOLUTION 2008

WHEREAS the state of Israel has refused to recognize the rights of the Pale=
stinian  people to coexist in the land both peoples claim as their homeland=
;  and

WHEREAS both Israelis and Palestinians deserve a safe and secure state;  an=
d

WHEREAS  Israel and Palestine are unable to solve the conflict themselves; =
and

WHEREAS both  Israel and the United States continue to ignore their agreeme=
nts to support the Geneva Conventions and the International Bill of Human R=
ights on this issue; and

WHEREAS the failure of the United Statesto take a  leadership role in peace=
 negotiations  has increased tensions in the Middle East and has caused sig=
nificant deterioration in international relations; and

WHEREAS the lack of resolution has caused severe human suffering and stress=
 to both peoples and played a direct role in increased violence in the Midd=
le East;

 BE IT RESOLVED that both Israelis and Palestinians should be expected to e=
nd all acts of violence and join in good faith efforts to resolve their dif=
ferences;  and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED  that the United States needs to take an active lead=
ership role in seeking a fair and just resolution to the conflict; creating=
 and recognizing a viable and contiguous state for Palestine beside the sta=
te of Israel; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the United States should take steps necessary t=
o insure the validity and sincerity of any negotiations and hold both sides=
 to strict compliance to any peace agreements.
