[Iowa-dx] Who Is First Official Green Registrant?

Congratulations, you are probably the first new Green registrant in the sta=
te!

As for being an official party, that comes about only by getting 2% of the =
presidential or gubernatorial race (which is nearly impossible here).   But=
 being able to register "Green" was the benefit we most wanted, so we've no=
w gotten that w/out being "official."   To keep our name on teh registratio=
n forms, we need to maintain at least 150 registered Greens and run a state=
wide candidate at least once every 8 or 10 years (now I can't recall which =
version went through, but the requirements are not onerous).

But we are considered a "no party political organization" in Iowa, and we h=
ave the right to have contacts and bylaws on file with county auditors (whi=
ch we do).    I think we should start describing ourselves as Iowa's non-pa=
rty progressive alternative, or something like that.....

I'm not beating my own drum, but this morning at 7:50 AM I
was the first Iowa Green Party member to register as a
Green "Organization" registrant at the Johnson County election
commission.  Note the official term "Green Organization", as
we are not yet, in the State of Iowa mentality, a "Party".

Officially, I handed the registration form to the clerk at exactly
8:00 AM, and at about 8:01 or 8:02 AM I was in the official
computer.  I do not know, nor do I really care, who the first
Green Party "Organization" member was in our state; the
important consideration is that I predict we will be an
official political PARTY in our State of Iowa before spring!
The official registration numbers will tell.
