[Iowa-dx] CR precinct 39 report

Thanks Rick and Wendy for the caucus reports.  I happened to be on a Green =
convention planning conference call, and they were all asking about what wa=
s happening here!

Interesting results, imo - the big money campaign didn't come out on top, a=
nd the populist inched into second place.    The "Dean wing" of teh Dem par=
ty wil be happy; and it will be interesting to see what teh DLC types do wi=
th this.

I've also mached results people phoned in to me with what was posted on the=
 web, and it appears no one was cheating but I didn't have that much tio co=
mpare.  With undreds of eyewitnesses at these things, it wouldn't be very s=
mart to try to mess with these results....

Precinct 39 in Cedar Rapids Democratic Party caucus met at Regis Middle Sch=
ool cafeteria. The room was packed with 312 attending, which is believed to=
 be a record.

original preferences went something like this:

Obama 145
Clinton 67
Edwards 53
Richardson 27
Biden maybe 12
Kucinich 5 or 6
Dodd 3

I handed out Sensible Priority Pens to all Edwards supporters (I still have=
 250). The slightly disorganized organizers were glad/relieved to accept a =
handful of pens at the front door.

47 was necessary to be viable.  Richardson and Biden camps mostly joined Ed=
wards. I lost track of the Dodd supporters. Some of the Kucinich people wen=
t to Obama, some joined Edwards. Some unhappy people left without realignin=
g. After reorganizing:

Obama     148 - 5 delegates
Edwards     78 - 2 delegates
Clinton      67? - 2 delegates  ( I didn't hear the final tally, but it was=
 less than Edwards )

I refused the offer to be a delegate and snagged a voter registration form =
with the Green checkbox which will be in the mail soon.

Platform planks were collected without discussion.


The measure of a nation is not it's great wealth, but what it does with tha=
t wealth - whether it creates great joy or great misery.
