Attended the caucus yesterday.

Turnout was heavy for our area, approx 275 attendants. Organization was
surprisingly good for a liberal cat-herding event - first and second
viability divisions were done in less 2 hours.

Obama rec'd 2 delegates, Edwards, Richardson, Clinton, and Biden each
rec'd 1 delegate.

In the first division, Obama had approx 115 people in the group. Only 5
were lost during the jockeying before the 2nd count. After the second
count, all groups were viable, and rec'd their delegate(s).

Interestingly, an informal poll was taken at our caucus, and
approximately a third of the attendants were first-time caucus goers.
This is interesting for two primary reasons:

1. It indicates that people are being further politicized in my area
(middle class, fairly white, older section of Des Moines).

2. My area of Des Moines is heavily Democratic (I think I saw a whopping
one Republican sign on my street - McCain), and an increase in caucus
attendance, especially amongst first-timers, may indicate a possible
rebuilding of the Democratic party base.

That's the scoop from the heart of Beaverdale in Des Moines!

Keep it Green,

Daryl Northrop
IAGP Co-Chair.
