I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if this would attract a lot of student- =
and after finals, many will be leaving or getting ready to leave town - not=
that it isn't worth a shot (and maybe this gives some preparation time). =
Iowa City always has a standing offer to host, but certainly if another lo=
cation wants to do this, that could work. Otherwise, we can look into gett=
ing venue, and maybe come up with some musical entertainment from local Gre=
ens (hoping for the Cheney Song with sing-along chorus).

Do we want to wait that long to do a preference vote? Here is one suggesti=
on: my thought was that every organized chapter (or even places with one o=
r two folks) could hold a meeting (call is a caucus, county convention, wha=
tever, it's a meeting!). Each group might then have attenders cast a ba=
llot, and could consider submitted resolutions or platform planks; also con=
sider resolutions regarding the upcoming national nominating convention, if=
desired. At the same time, ballots can be mailed to those who want them=
, can't attend or who might show up on a voter registration list. Meetings=
would be held by a certain date, and mail-in ballots would be returned by =
a certain date, as well - say, by mid-March. (With a preference vote, if t=
he candidate line-up changes, the same ballots can be re-tabulated with tha=
t line-up without having to be cast again.)

At-large (greater Iowa chapter) Greens not able to attend one of these meet=
ings could also choose to meet somewhere, ro meet online. conference call, =
chat room, or simply cast ballots and votes on resolutions.

I think its' important to have some local meetings, because more will likel=
y attend these that wnt' get to a statewide meeting, ad it's a good chance =
to (re-)organize and revitalize these groups and plan for local activities.

By the time of the state meeting, we would have the ballot results and volu=
nteers/nominees/conscripts for convention delegates and alternates (note: t=
hese are different from delegates to the Green National Committee - the GNC=
delegates can also be convention delegates, but don't have to be). We cou=
ld then approve a slate of delegates/alternates, officially confirm whateve=
r resolutions we've approved and whatever else we want to do, possibly look=
 into bringing in a speaker.

Does this sound workable? A ranked-choice ballot wouldn't be hard to dra=
w up. Imo, this group (the state committee ) should make ahy preliminary d=
ecisions about whom to have on the ballots, which should not be a difficul=
t decision.

The Green Party of Minnesota is doing something similar to this , so there =
is some precedent. We will need to submit our process for selecting presid=
ential preference can delegates to the national Credentials Committee (not =
yet formed), and there is various information they want for each delegate, =
etc. There is also information from the national party with examples and a=
dvice, if we are interested in looking these over. Our processes have alwa=
ys been rght inline with what is recommended, in any case.

The 10th was just something to get the ball rolling. If the 3rd is
better, so be it. I was just hoping to advance this to the point that
we had a firm date and location. I know that sometimes the good
meeting locations are reserved well in advance, so it might be good
for us to get the date and location nailed down ASAP. We can work on
agenda later.

What do others think?
