Why mess around with anything that looks plastic? Get yourselves one or more canvas bags for your groceries!

We have to be careful about how we go about this. There are plastic
non-biodegradeable bags, and then there are bags that look like they
are made of plastic but are actually plant resin which does biodegrade.
I, myself, have encountered check-out clerks at New Pioneer Co-Op
who did not know this. Unless a bag is labeled as plant resin material
that is biodegradeable, I would, myself, never know what one looks
like. I have never seen one of those biodegradeable bags, so I do not
know if NPCO uses them or not, but the checkout clerks always ask
"Paper or plastic?"
As I understand it, the biodegradeable bag will hold up even in the
rain long enough to get one's groceries home. As I walk the four and
a half blocks to New Pioneer Co-Op from my downtown apartment,
I would not know if one of the biodegradeable plant material bags
would hold up that far in a driving rain. I will ask about this at
the New Pioneer Co-Op annual meeting this coming wednesday.
