This is a response that I sent courtesy of Iowa Global Warming Campaign,

New train service from Iowa City to Chicago via the Quad Cities is
possible within a few years. That's the finding of a study released last
Friday by Amtrak and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
But it won't happen without public support. Please tell Governor Culver
you support new train service -- it's a great way to reduce global
warming while providing new transportation choices.

I support your efforts to bring new Amtrak train service to Iowa City and
the Quad Cities, but I ALSO WANT IT TO GO ALL THE WAY TO DES MOINES!!!
In an era of high gas prices, highway and airport congestion, Iowa needs
new passenger rail service now more than ever. Besides, Greymutt Lines
(Greyhound) sabotages my effort to ride Burlington Trailways buses to
Chicago! We need comfortable, smooth rail transportation not just as a
competitor, but as a reliable main transportation source that is better
than flying!
New rail service from Iowa City and Des Moines to Chicago via the Quad
Cities can reduce global warming pollution while increasing
transportation choices.
Just across our border in Illinois, Amtrak ridership has almost doubled
in the last year, proving that "if you build it, they will come." The
route to be used to Iowa City and Des Moines from Chica go is the old
Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific ("Rock Island") route that was so
dependable until Rock Island ceased to exist! We need it back! Even
Iowa Interstate Railroad (the new owner of the former Rock Island
mainline in Iowa to Chicago) is accepting of this!
I urge you to include the necessary funding for this exciting proposal in
your budget next year.
