BARTH/JOHNSON GREEN GOVERNOR CAMPAIGN NEWSLETTER #4
CAMPAIGN EDITION - DOWN to the WIRE!!
First, THANK YOU to those who sent in contributions to
help reach our goal of $500. We made the goal and
received matching funds to pay for newspaper ads in
the Des Moines Register and whatever other papers the
campaign could afford. Any contributions that come in
after this will be used to re-imburse some expenses
currently listed as gifts in kind (and will be much
appreciated).
THANK YOU to those who wrote letters to editors.
Letters were spotted in the Register, Waterloo
Courier, Iowa City Press Citizen and Daily Iowan. IF
you know of others, please let us know!
THANK YOU to the CANDIDATES, Wendy and Rick. ITheir
IPTV appearance drew positive response, and in the
last few days, they have been traveling, meeting and
greeting and doing a fantastic job putting a friendly
face on the Green Party for Iowa voters.
Here are your Final Instructions:
1) Don't forget to Vote! If you haven't voted yet,
check your county auditor's website or office for
satellite polling stations for early voting on Monday;
or, for your poling place if you vote on Tuesday.
REMEMBER - if you have the choice of using anj
political scan machine (which uses a paper ballot) or
a DRE (touch screen computer, USE THE PAPER BALLOT!!
IF YOU ARE IN A COUNTY WITH ONLY DRE'S YOU CAN STILL
REQUEST A PAPER BALLOT - and if your auditor says
otherwise, call 1-866-OUR-VOTE and let them know. (We
have this on the authrotiy of Deputy SoS Charlie
Krogmeier.)
2) Tell 10 - can you get 10 votes for Wendy? We know
of one young man in NW Iowa who's gotten promises of
6!
3) After the Election- get involved - with any good
cause. There are many.
a. What issues are facing your city or county? Are
their openings on your city council, county board of
supervisors, township trustees, soil and water
commission; or on appointed boards and commissions.
Are you interested in running fro office as a Green?
b. Organize a local chapter of the Iowa Green
Party?
c. Would you like to invite a speaker or host a film
screening in your town?
d. Hold monthly or bi-mothly chats on various topics
at your local coffee house or restaurant?
****************
On election night after the polls close, it's fun to
watch election returns - invite your friends to join
you at your favorite restaurant, upscale coffee house
or seedy bar to watch the election returns, and
chee/bo/cry/clap wildly, and talk about #3 above!
Folks who will be in or around Iowa City are invited
to join Wendy and friends at The Mill Restaurant (on
Burlington St, near the corner of Burlington and
Clinton), staring about 8:30. If you arrive late and
don't see any of us there, you'll know we were either
chased out or moved to a quieter spot at house of
Aromas (around the corner and down the block on
Clinton St, between Active Endeavors and Iowa State
Bank).
The great thing about this campaign is that there is
no losing! If the candidates get 2% of the vote, the
Iowa Green Party will become an official political
party in Iowa. If not, an important task has been
achieved: thanks to our candidate, many more Iowans
aware of the Green Party, and their impressions have
been overwhelmingly positive. That's going to count
for something next election cycle...... !
