Dear Folks,
I was disappointed that Nader has said he will not run for the Green
candidacy,
but I must confess that the GP convention in June seemed much too late. I
read
his statement on Portside on declining to run for the GP nomination and it
made
sense to me.
Although the "anybody but Bush" tide is very strong, I agree that we should
run a presidential candidate in 2004. That is, I think the powers that be
will
work very hard (along with the liberals) to marginalize any independent
presidential candidacy so even in comparison with 2000 it will be much
more difficult. That is, we should go into the campaign with our eyes wide
open. But I find the "safe states" strategy a capitulation to the DP and
therefore oppose.
I agree with Ken Mathenia's comment:
> Until December 23rd, I had assumed that Nader would be the front running
> candidate going into the convention. Whoever the Green's end up
nominating,

My strong inclination is that the Green Party develop a working relationship
with Nader.
In solidarity,
