Greetings,

Thanks to Michael for keeping this network alive
since Labor Notes. I've sort of been the other
"missing in action" co-facilitator. I agreed to do
so by default, and will gladly pass the baton to
anyone else who may be interested since I have way
too much else on my plate.

The loss of the UFCW 538 strike against Tyson Foods
does not bode well for the future of the broader
labor movement and definitely took some wind out of
my own sails since I expended a lot of personal time
and energy on it. We can all learn from the
experience about the pitfalls of "business unionism"
and the need for more radical direct action and
community-based organizing, and that is one topic I
would definitely like to take up during the Labor
Greens meeting slot in Milwaukee.

Before then I would also like to circulate a draft
"Why Be a Green in the Labor Movement?" brochure.
If it ends up drawing heavily upon the language and
the inspiratin of the IWW, well - I am a Wobbly, and
always will be! I actually hope to have something
ready prior to May Day, which I would encourage all
Greens to help reclaim as the true International
Workers Day (let the bosses keep their labor day...)
If Greens in your area are not already planning to
do something on May Day there's still time to join
millions of others around the world in celebrating
working class solidarity.

For the One Big "Green" Union! - John
