The voting results are in and a significant majority voted against our
resolution:
 
 "OK, so America had an election, but did anything change?" 
 
But we at ddtv do not see this as a defeat because we welcome different
points of view, even if they oppose our resolutions. The reason for this
vote seems to be a general consensus to give the new Democratic congress a
chance before passing judgment. Abraham Moses Genen expressed this in the
following essay.

The next Congress starts in January. Between now and then organizational
work in preparation for numerous policy changes are taking place. Does
anyone with any sense believe that all of the problems of the world are
going to be resolved overnight?
 
There are many domestic as well as international issues that should concern
us. The economy, global warming, national health care, social security, an
assortment of wars, poverty, the specter of terrorism and numerous other
challenges affect each of us either directly or indirectly. From my
perspective a primary concern should be a dysfunctional government and the
absence of meaningful -  and ethical - representation by many of the public
officials we elected. 
 
It should be obvious that the lack of truly representative governance is at
the root of the many problems that are affecting each state, each region,
and the nation. The self-serving arrogance and indifference to the majority
of the electorate by much of the local and regional leadership in this
nation is just one part in the ongoing decline of legitimate representative
democracy. 
 
Political power has increasingly shifted to a well-funded minority of large
corporate vested interests and dogmatic ideologues that regularly dictate
governmental policies and processes with detrimental effects on our lives
and wellbeing. This self - serving corporate plutocracy has been undermining
our rights and privileges for far too long. As part of this process
legitimate democracy has become an illusion.
 
We are not being properly represented and the legitimate needs and desires
of the majority of the American people are certainly not being met. The
institutionalized corruption and continuous decline of representative
democracy is clearly due to the continuous need of politicians to obtain
campaign funds.
 
This corruption of the democratic system is exacerbated by the entrenched
oligarchy of large corporate interests that supplies the bulk of campaign
funding to the politicians who provide them with the services they demand.
With this corruption come the attempts by many of those in power to reduce -
if not halt - the natural expansion our civil liberties, our collective
rights and our individual responsibilities.
 
The most effective way of reducing - and ultimately ending - this endemic
corruption of government by the well paid representatives of large selfish
corporate interests is by eliminating all the private campaign contributions
that corrupt elected officials and distract them from providing their
constituents with the services they demand. This should also help us from
being diverted from considering substantive policy issues by the highly
emotional matters promoted during elections.
 
Initially, our aim should be establishing an effective system of
non-partisan voluntary public funding of candidates for national, state, and
local public office. We should also gradually empower the public through an
incrementally progressive system of continuous national citizen based
initiatives and referenda on all the substantive public policy issues that
affect our lives and the lives of all future generations.
 
Representative governance must be administered by ethical career
professionals selected by a fully informed public electorate on the
objective basis of the candidates legislative and administrative knowledge,
skills, abilities, and desire to serve the public. In order to administer
our government effectively all public servants must be obligated to
continually provide for the legitimate rights, needs and services of the
majority while preventing abuses to the rights of minorities.
 
All legislators and public administrators should be required to periodically
take comprehensive written and oral examinations that demonstrate their
qualifications, competence and continued understanding of the publics
evolving needs and desires. The results of such examinations should be the
basis of critical and objective examination by the public without the
pervasive bias and superficiality of political advertising. Only then can
the people of this nation make the fully informed value judgments necessary
to insure meaningful representation by our public servants.
 
Empowered self - governance is clearly the most meaningful and fulfilling
form of governance. Our ultimate goal should be a system of direct democracy
with optimal and ethical self - regulation administered by  career public
servants dedicated to serving the public. Objective evaluations based on
critical thinking skills must reflect our growing abilities to make the
fully informed ethical judgments necessary for the increased controls we
need to promote a political, social and economic environment that enhance
our eternal desires for ever greater self - determination.

This email is an electronic democracy, using it costs you nothing, but it
can make for a better world if we can get enough people involved either by a
peoples lobby to congress or as an electronic democracy where all the people
rule. To use it, just read the resolution then follow the voting

Resolution:
It's a few weeks since the election, so it's time to ask; did anything
change?
 
No.
 
The killing continues in Iraq, Israel, Kenya, Sri Lanka and many other
places. One third of the worlds population still does not have clean
drinking water and millions continue to die of curable diseases like
diarrhea and parasites.The United Nations remains useless.
 
The Republicans and Democrats all yelled at the public that they and only
they have the solution to all of humanities problems. But yet, 40 million
Americans still do not have health insurance, workers pensions are still
being destroyed by greedy corporations. The whole justice system is a joke,
as proved by O.J. Simpson who is flaunting the public with his stupid book
"If I did it". Yea, right.
 
The only thing the Democrats and Republicans have achieved so far is
sticking to the gentlemen's agreement they made not to talk to the public
about who is funding their campaigns. But Alan Hevesi did manage to save
some money by having tax payers pay for his wife's chauffeur. Also, all that
unused campaign money that was donated is quietly disappearing.
 
I guess the major issue of the campaign was the war in Iraq, where the
Democrats shouted that they have the solution for the war. But now that the
election is over and they have the congressional majority they wanted, they
are strangely quiet about the war. Someone said they're forming a committee
to research it or something.
 
OK, so this essay is a little negative, But there just may be one little
bright spot in it. Eliot Spitzer gov. elect of New York State has said that
he will rally the public if entrenched interests in Albany resist reform and
spending cuts. I mean, what is he talking about, he can't mean using the
mass media to get the public involved in government operations or the
electronic democracy I have been promoting for ten
years................HHMMMMMM.............interesting....................
but we will have to wait and see about this one.
