Thanks for this post. I have to admit I too often take for granted that progressives will be against the racist funding of violent terror against the inhabitants of Palestine.

I would welcome Bernie Sanders and some other folks into the Green Party but they would have to defend their position or agree to cut off funds to Israel.

Thanks again Michelle for putting my enthusiasm for a potential green into the realm of the ten key values.

Bernie Sanders: Another Cog in the Bush War Machine
Author: Craig Hill
Body:

Guernica was a little town in Spain, with approximately the population
of Montpelier which was bombed to smithereens by the Nazi Luftwaffe in
1937 in a conspiracy with Fascist Generalisimo Francisco Franco, en
route to his destruction of the liberal Spanish Republic.

Not only were one-quarter to one-third of Guernicans murdered, but the
destruction was targeted to hit civilian infrastructure in a successful
dry run for the blitzkrieg on Poland soon to follow. The world objected,
but did nothing to stop the warmongers of their day.

Not only were innocent civilians murdered in Lebanon, but the deadly
efficient, precision-guided missiles targeted electric plants, water
facilities, hospitals, and even grocery stores, while leaving Hezbollah
bases intact, as if the two enemies operate in a single bipolar mind.

Lebanon is the Guernica preceding Syria and, most importantly, Iran. Our
secretary of state keeps telling us we don’t approve of their
governments, which must be changed to something akin to the wreck of
Iraq. Israel is sharing its findings of its destruction of Lebanon with
its financial backers, U.S. taxpayers, through its partners in war,
George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

Congressman Bernie Sanders has voted his approval of Israel’s role in
Lebanon, just as he has voted for the Iran Freedom Support Act, which
authorizes Bush to change the government of Iran. Sanders is not the
independent progressive savior Vermonters are constantly reminded he is.
He is, rather, another cog in the Bush war machine. He has not been
representing Vermont with his votes in Congress.

This is not about Bernie, but the system that has changed him. It’s not
the war that must be stopped; it’s its organizers. In 2006, a vote for
Sanders is a vote for war.

Craig Hill
Green Party Candidate for
the U.S. Senate
Montpelier, VT
