BAGHDAD, IRAQ -- At the end of a day in which attacks killed at least 160
Iraqis and wounded more than 250, comes word that Baghdad's airport is shut.
Iraq's interior ministry says no commercial flights will come or go from
there until further notice.
Local authorities say at least five car bombs and a couple of mortar rounds
were used in one of the deadliest attacks of the war. The target was the
Shiite slum of Sadr City.
Shiites wasted little time in retaliating with mortar rounds on the holiest
Sunni shrine in Baghdad. At least one person was killed. Other mortars hit
the building that houses a top Sunni organization, but no one was hurt.
