Peace Activists hit the streets together as allies. They risk a lot when they challenge the most powerful military juggernaut in history.
However, when they go into the voting booth they become enemies. Why is this? It is because some vote for a relative to the Republican pro-peace Democrat and others vote 3rd party.
Forging a peace movement takes unity and we cannot build a sustained peace movement strong enough to shift the foreign policy of this country on such a divided foundation.
Tonight there is a roundtable in Washington, D.C. to sort out the issues of the dilemna.

I suggest there are several positions one can take.
Accept the 2 party system. Submit yourself to the discipline of lesser-evil voting and eeking out at glacier speed change in the legislature to a more pro-peace.
Expand the 2 party system with Instant Runoff Voting where the peace activist can vote 1st for the most peace oriented candidate, 2nd for the next most peace oriented, and finally 3rd for the one who will stop the war-maker or pro-war candidate.
Vote the way your conscience dictates and the hell with the consequences.
Actively pressure the legislature to enact legislation which ends the "spoiler problem".
There are probably more: suggest them for the next poll
Roundtable: The Peace Voter's Dilemma -
A Cross Partisan Dialogue on War
Washington, DC. As the mid-term elections approach, VotersForPeace. US has organized a unique roundtable that engages anti-war commentators across the political spectrum in a dialogue about the dilemma the continued US occupation of Iraq poses for anti-war voters. Nick Gillespie, Editor-in-Chief of REASON magazine, will moderate this landmark event at Busboys & Poets on Monday, Oct 9, 2006, from 6:00-8:00pm. Members of the press and public are welcome to attend.
"Polls show that bringing the troops home from Iraq is the top issue for voters this November, creating `The Peace Voters Dilemma". Given the weak anti-war stance of many frontrunner candidates, what is a peace voter to do? Our cross-partisan roundtable hopes to engage this and related questions." said Linda Schade, Executive Director of VotersForPeace. US.
How are political parties responding to the new "peace voter"? If a majority of Americans are now against the US occupation of Iraq , why aren't more candidates/incumben ts taking a strong anti-war stance? What does the peace voter dilemma tell us about the state of our democracy? What can be done to restore accountability and responsiveness to our political system? How will the US electorate react to an attack on Iran
