Phew! Can we get the GPUS media comm to fix this or draft something?

IMHO we should start a petition with or alongside ANSWER and let folks know
that if they release this terrorist, we will hold them accountable and not
let it go like Katrina, etc, etc.

We do agree that he should face trial, yes??

Congressman Rogers, Attorney General Gonzales, President Bush and all people
who want America to fight and not harbor or nurture terrorists,

While I have had pause on several occasions to get up nerve to write a
letter to the editor since the terrible catastrophe of Sept 11th, 2001,
watching missed opportunity after missed opportunity to unite not divide and
lead our country, and to render our constitution, our people, our union and
republic stronger and more secure. Now, 5 years later, not feeling safer or
freer, rather the opposite, as I watch the indecent anarchy of democrats and
republicans put forth their valueless programs whose true interest is by and
for big money with unlimited access to the CNN/Fox/Limbaugh/NY Times media,
I am compelled after reading yesterday's headline in the Miami Herald to
write this letter.

Sept 12th Headline read: 
"In a surprise decision, a federal magistrate in Texas has recommended that
Cuban exile militant Luis Posada Carriles be released from immigration
custody"

This is a man who fled custody while on trial for blowing up a civilian
airline, murdering 73 passengers including the pilots and stewards.

Rather than promote a rule of law, responsibility, and human values, our
so-called leaders continue to pander to fear and fear-mongering rather than
lead by example and by demonstration of principles or sacrifice for the
weaker-than-us, and for the greater good. 

The global free-trade movement with its heathen idol of free trade over
human life and human values is very clearly and historically the movement of
economic liberals and now the neo-liberals. This anti-values coalition spans
the seeming opposites found in Rush Limbaugh who says he hates big
government while promoting the biggest government boondoggle ever -- the
Department of Homeland Security who so inconceivably prevented our national
guard and FEMA from doing a job they had always been able reasonably
compentently to do pre-post 9/11 big government solution -- to Hillary
Clinton and her husband Bill who rather than oppose the North American Free
Trade Agreement or the selling of six major US ports to the highest bidder,
instead conspire to spin off subsidiaries that will allow big business and
multinational corporations to make money at the expense of workers, their
families, and their children from Fort Payne and Opelika Alabama to South
Carolina, and the unsafe and inhumane factories re-located to South of our
border or to China where union and human rights organizers face harassment,
terroristic death-threats, and even murder should they raise issues of human
rights or democracy. 

And isn't terrorism what George Bush says he is fighting in our name? 
Clearly he was not elected by anywhere near a majority of the people of our
country (most people did not even vote seeing such little difference between
the two corporate-funded parties), so I plea with him; even mistake after
mistake, misdeed after misdeed, and incompetence bordering on high treason
and reasons to impeach... 

Please Sir: with family members who have served honorably in Iraq, Kuwait,
and Afghanistan, and having nearly lost my dearest cousin who evacuated
100's of his fellow workers from the world trade center on the fateful day
September 11th, 2001, before successfully fleeing in the half hour after his
building was then hit and brought down by violent terrorists using civilian
murder to gain politically, I constantly try to refrain from major media
confrontation. 

But yesterday -- on September 11th no less -- a US judge was verging on
allowing the Department of Homeland Security to release from preventative
detention a self acknowleged architect of hotel bombings in Cuba, and a
person who has a preponderance of evidence pointing to his planning of the
bombing of civilian jet airliner flight 455 which bombing resulted in the
murder of 73 innocent civilian pilots, stewards, and passengers. 

A terrorist crime, may I remind you sir, which trial he escaped from in
Venezuela. 
His name is Luis Posada Carriles, and there is no justification for
harboring a terrorist like Mr. Carriles in the United States. 

But then, on September 11th no less, we learn our government is on the verge
of releasing him? 
I urge you Mr Rogers and any sincere opponent of terrorists and terrorism to
publicly say which side you our on and publicly ask our State Department to
stop ignoring Venezuela's request for his preventive detention and his
extradition to face trial for the bombing of Cubana de Aviacion flight 455
in 1976, in which 73 people were murdered. 

Mr Carriles has openly boasted about his terrorist crimes. He has vowed to
continue to plot and plan murder and mayhem against civilians for his
political goals. 

Can we afford to openly give haven and refuge to openly terrorist
individuals like this? Even if you make the cynical calculation that you can
afford it, do you think that the American people will forever allow you to
get away with these affordable tax cuts for the wealthy and budget cuts for
education and veterans health care? 

Money and a fearful and fear-mongered public can be be fooled sometimes by
people who say the times are too scary to allow human rights or the Bill of
Rights or to treat people the way Jesus would do. 

But you can't fool the people all of the time, so forget about affordability
and the big money funding the democratic and republican parties; do what's
right: Extradite Luis Posada Carriles to Venezuela for the terrorist crimes
he faces trial for. No haven for terrorist murderers in our country!
