If you've missed the many calls by the GPUS in press
releases and others for just such change over the
years, you've not been paying attention.
I think the party and all of our presidential
candidates(though Mesplay said has a different
variation on the theme that I'm not sure I've fully
digested) have called for all the actions you note.
visit www.gp.org and go to press releases to read
exactly what you are calling for at various junctures
over the last several years.
All our actions are aligned with that in mind as one
of our prevailing goals.
But of course, it can never be reiterated enough!
The Bhutto assassination may present a clear
opportunity to speak to our positions on the Iraq and
Afghan wars as well as regarding Iran and Pakistan.
I don't know if there has been sufficient conversation
among Greens to have a decisive consensus opinion of
Benazir Bhutto herself but certainly we are the party
of nonviolence and don't countenance assassination as
a means to resolve political conflict in any event.
At any rate, we should also consult with Greens in
Pakistan if possible so as not to mischaracterize or
damage events as they see them.

Green shoots in Pakistan

Latest addition to global Green movement
The Greens today welcomed the launch of a new Green
Party in Pakistan. The new group will hold a press
conference in the province of Punjab tomorrow,
Tuesday, July 13.
"We always welcome the growth of Green politics in
other countries as we work for the growth of Green
politics at home," said Green Party international
spokesperson John Norris. "This further proves that
Greens are part of a global movement. We wish them the
very best success in the future."
"The England and Wales Green Party has links to other
Green Parties in the Commonwealth, most notably in New
Zealand, Australia and Canada, where the Greens enjoy
significant popular support," Norris continues, "We
always welcome the development of new parties, which
has been occurring in South Africa, and now in
Pakistan."
