I totally agree with Michael and this should be a top priority. Has the =
request been made to GPUS or have they released a statement and I missed =
it? Below is an e-mail I sent to our (Green Party of Washington State) =
CC:
We need to step up and do something. I suggest a Green Party contingent =
visit our local representatives, Murray, Cantwell, and McDermott and =
demand they do something. With the appropriate press releases, we might =
get good coverage for our action. -- maryrose
From article Michael linked in his e-mail: =20
The executive order violates the First, Fourth and Fifth Amendments of =
the US Constitution. It repeals one of the fundamental tenets of US =
democracy, which is the right to free expression and dissent. The order =
has not been the object of discussion in the US Congress. Sofar, it has =
not been addressed by the US antiwar movement, in terms of a formal =
statement.
Apart from a bland Associated Press wire report, which presents the =
executive order as "an authority to use financial sanctions", there has =
been no media coverage or commentary of a presidential decision which =
strikes at the heart of the US Constitution..=20

Movement
The GP-US should join with others (UFPJ, ANSWER, etc.) in responding =
to this latest outrage by the Bush-Cheney regime, including seeking a =
legal opinion clarifying the scope of this Executive Order and how it =
could be applied to peace activists and the antiwar movement.
