Below is the first draft of a resolution proposed for adoption at=20
Monday's Huron Valley Greens business meeting. Please bring your own=20

RESOLUTION ON THE PEOPLE'S FOOD CO-OP AND BOYCOTT OF ISRAELI GOODS
Adopted by consensus at the regular business meeting of the Huron Valley =
Greens on _____________, 2007.
WHEREAS on July 9, 2005, 171 Palestinian political parties, unions,=20
associations, coalitions and organizations called upon "international=20
civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world=20
to impose broad boycotts ... against Israel similar to those applied to=20
South Africa in the apartheid era" until "it complies with international =
law and universal principles of human rights;" and
WHEREAS in Resolution 190 of 2005, the Green Party of the United States=20
calls on all civil society institutions and organizations around the=20
world to implement a comprehensive divestment and boycott program=20
against the State of Israel until such time as the full individual and=20
collective rights of the Palestinian people are realized; and,
WHEREAS on July 13, 2006, the Green Party of Michigan adopted its=20
"Resolution of Peace in Palestine" affirming its solidarity with the=20
Palestinian people and its endorsement of the July 9, 2005, call by 171=20
Palestinian civil society organizations "for boycott, divestment and=20
sanctions against Israel until it complies with international law and=20
universal principles of human rights;" and,
WHEREAS on June 12, 2006, the Huron Valley Greens adopted a resolution=20
expressing its solidarity with the Palestinian people and endorsing the=20
July 9, 2005, call by 171 Palestinian civil society organizations "for=20
boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel until it complies with=20
international law and universal principles of human rights;" and,
WHEREAS the People's Food Co-op (PFC) "promotes a healthy world and=20
closer connection to food sources by managing its economic power with=20
community-focused, cooperative values;" and,
WHEREAS the PFC "values mutually supportive relationships among members=20
of our local and global communities;" and,
WHEREAS according to the Economic and Social Development Center--a=20
Palestinian NGO: "The roots of the cooperative movement in Palestine=20
goes back to the year 1933" and "the number of active cooperatives in=20
Palestine is around 400 cooperatives with more than fifty thousands=20
members representing 300,000 families."
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Huron Valley Greens urge the PFC to=20
adopt a policy that the PFC will neither purchase nor sell goods=20
produced in part or in whole in Israel or Israeli settlements in the=20
Israeli-occupied territories of East Jerusalem, Gaza, Golan Heights, and =
the West Bank until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the=20
Palestinian people=92s inalienable right to self-determination and fully =
complies with the precepts of international law by:
1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and=20
dismantling its "security barrier" within the West Bank and far from the =
"Green Line;"
2. Respecting the fundamental rights of the Arab citizens of Israel to=20
full equality; and
3. Respecting, protecting, and promoting the rights of Palestinian=20
refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN=20
resolution 194; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Huron Valley Greens urge the PFC=20
to--consistent with its vision, values, and mission--purchase and sell=20
goods produced by Arab cooperatives in the Israeli-occupied territories=20
of East Jerusalem, Gaza, Golan Heights, and the West Bank; and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that copies of this resolution together with=20
copies of the Palestinian call of July 9, 2005, Resolution 190, and=20
Huron Valley Greens resolution of June 12, 2006, shall be hand-delivered =
to the PFC Board of Directors by the Recording Secretary or a Co-Chair=20
at a regular Board meeting.
