Free Film Screening This Wednesday Night at Alamo Drafthouse Dowtown
Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, August 16th, at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown
for a free screening of Green, a powerful documentary about Cancer Alley, a
100 mile stretch along the Mississippi River in Louisiana that is home to
150 petrochemical plants - and among the highest concentration of toxic
emissions to the air, land and water in the country. Green explores the dire
effects on humans, predominantly poor and African American, of this
pollution. Green was made by local film-maker Laura Dunn, who will answer
questions after the screening. Please let your friends know about this great
free film this Wednesday. <http://twobirdsfilm.com/homeProjFilm.htm> Learn
more about Green. The Alamo is at 409 Colorado St.
Save Our Springs Files Suit to Protect Rare Species
Last week, SOS Alliance filed suit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service for failing to follow the Endangered Species Act regarding two rare
species native to the Edwards Aquifer. The Jollyville salamander lives in
Travis and Williamson Counties and is threatened with extinction from urban
development in its habitat. The San Felipe gambusia lives near the San
Felipe Springs in Del Rio and is threatened by over-pumping and pollution.

We're in a Drought. Please Use Less Water
Central Texas is experiencing a severe and prolonged drought, leaving Barton
Springs flowing at less than half normal flow. Whether your water comes from
the Colorado River and the Highland Lakes or from groundwater, please do
what you can to use less water. Check out these
