Today, Congress Watch released a report showing the members of Congress mos=
t (and least) influenced by special interests.=20

In Under the Influence, http://www.cleanupwashington.org/sii, we rank each =
member of Congress by the amount of contributions they take from lobbyists,=
 out-of-state donors, political action committees (PACs), and donors who gi=
ve less than $200 (a measure of grassroots financial support as opposed to =
special interest support).

As we are all too-well aware, special interests spend millions to gain acce=
ss to politicians and are rewarded with billions of taxpayer dollars in ret=
urn.  We are left with poor public policy and scandals in the headlines.  I=
f you are upset about this state of affairs, and frustrated that nothing se=
ems to change, this report offers a big clue why. =20

The scandals of Tom Delay, Jack Abramoff and Bob Ney alerted many Americans=
 to the state of ethics in Congress, but they were not just a few bad apple=
s. The problem is systemic.  The way that lawmakers currently raise money c=
hanges the subject of government from the people=92s business to business-a=
s-usual.  This report follows the money trail and shows clearly and simply =
why we need public funding for elections.
