Rather than experiencing the words of Olbermann about the threat and loss of removal of our constitutional protections as "spewing hate and fear", I experience a person appropriately defining the historical background of such acts. I hear the outrage, not hate, about such shameless and violent acts as the signing of legislation to deny citizens the precious freedoms, with no recourse. That deserves and calls for a response that is bold, unafraid, AND ASSERTIVE. None of that is hate and fear. It is rather a rightful assertion of a constitutional right that is approprioate. It is the protest of a caring citizen speaking for the benefit of all freedom loving perople. Yes it could be done in other ways, blandly, sanitized from emotion, even machine like.

I Do not mistake such powerful expressions as hate. They are more the words of one speaking with strength and courage. To confront the powerful and ruthless ones who are commiting crimes against our very fundamental human needs for civility and respect: respect fro the human need ot be free of coercion, to be protected by our laws from those who would rob us of our inherited constitutional rights to be free of unwarratned and wrongful acts of goevernment agents: military, national security agency, CIA, local police, FBI, etc. etc. Remember the "extraordinary renmditions"? Have you heard the stories and testimony of even one who has suffered the torture that is now redefined as acceprtable under the new legislation recently passed? Just one such tortured victim is too many in my mind. That is indefensible no matter how you look at it. Its ineffective. Its unlawful. Its a war
crime. Its a violation of basicv human rights in a world where this is a generally accepted wrongful act.

No, I see a glmmer of hope when I see such a person in their rightful role as a person giving news and its isignificance in a passionate way. To deny this type of freedom of expression under the charge of being like those who would deny us freedom is to mistake true patriotism for unlawful domination efforts, "hate and fear".

Thanks you for your carimng and comments. I respect your right to make them, while I also respect my right to do likewise. We co after all still have one way to communciate freely: the internet. For how long is unclear, for there are those in our world who would want to do soemthing to limit that too.

I foe one am glad that has not yet happened, and I will be sure to vote for thsoe who are committed to preserving this one way for us all to communcate freely in our world.

But why does this come only from a giant
media conglomerate? Commentary spouted at primetime not for the purpose of
conveying unbiased news and facts ...

Entertainment purposes? To engage and stir the viewer? For what purpose does
the media spew, these days?

Fox news and CNN/CNBC continue the political battles of the Left and Right.
Powerful commentary from celebrity anchors who deliver the news. Self righteous
and self proclaimed experts of every topic; the norm these days
across
television and cable channels. Speeches written by teams of writers. To what
end? For what purpose? Can we not digest the world correctly from their
portrayall of the facts? Or is it cheaper and easier for them to just give us
the conclusions, drawn up and pre-digested for us?

Can they not find life-long experts in the career field which is the topic of
discussion? Is there aversion to hard, back-breaking work to bring about
indepth, unbiased reports? Or has the temptation grown too large for the
for-profit corporate media machines to resist? Is media tired of viewing from
the sidelines? Is the power of influence too great? The temptation to change a
word here or splice there - the consequence is very real. And they know the
power to sway public opinion that they hold. The edit of rebuttal ... the art
of semantics.

Yet this is a
paramount, ethical speech worthy of wide spread viewing. Strong
words no political leaders seem to speak. America's pacified public desperately
needs to hear of this country's course, and with authority.

So it tears me ...

I cautiously love to hear media commentary championing for civil rights,
justice, and equality. But dispize when it spews hatred and fear.

Right or wrong, the media giants have entered the ring. They are no longer
innocent bi-standers. I contend they always have been part of the playing
field. But like referees on a football field, they use to try to get out of the
way.

Now they, with all their money and all their influence, ARE the news. "Look at
me, I have something to say" It's political, it's opinionated, and it's wrong.
But it's saying what so desperately needs to be said ... these days of late. As
the media
Left has decided to be unabashed and vocal in countering the media
Right.

This has become primetime news.

We could fault media for not pursuing facts with priority and sanctity.
But we the public, do not pursue peace and serenity, but desire the next big
thing. A sequence of increasingly arousing experiences. More sensational and
dramatic than the last. No wonder the world, our planetary condition, is
beginning to emulate this pursuit.

Peace sells, but who's buying.

Craig Miller
loveandrage@ureach.com

---- On Sun, 22 Oct 2006, wrote:

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=7281005232779455137

When you open the link hit the left arrow forward button at the bottom of
the left side of the screen to start this critical piece.

________________________________________________
Get your
