So far, the print media has been highly supportive with the only printed opposition to TXU's plans has come from Public Citizen's Texas office - which cited electric rate concerns, not safety issues:
"This is part of TXU's master plan to drive out competition in the Texas market, which will result in higher bills for all of its customers," said Tom "Smitty" Smith, director of Public Citizen's Texas office.
The group claims that, although TXU (NYSE: TXU) says nuclear reactors could provide lower-priced sources of power, the previous nuclear reactor TXU built was more than $11 billion over budget, resulting in large rate increases for customers.

A critique of TXU tactics (but not of the plants themselves) posted in the Bryan newspaper comes from Karen Hadden:
Karen Hadden, executive director of the Sustainable Energy and Economic Development Coalition, said TXU is exaggerating the need for new power plants.
"Certainly we want to have a reserve margin, but [TXU officials] want us to be afraid of blackouts so they can build an empire," Hadden said.

  >>> Hey SEC people, I hope we have a press release condeming this unnecessary
and unwarrented action by TXU asap.

  All the Best,
  David Pollard
