Green Party will be on Illinois ballots

Sean Crawford, IL Public Radio
SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (2006-08-31) The November ballot will be more crowded in Illinois. The Green Party has been given access for a full slate of statewide candidates. The Greens needed five times as many valid signatures as either Republicans or Democrats, but after weeks of verifying petitions, they succeeded. Rich Whitney, a Carbondale lawyer, is the Green nominee for Governor. Now that he's on the ballot, he says his next battle is to be included in candidate debates. He has received no such invitation so far. The party also faces an uphill battle in fundraising. Whitney says he hopes to get enough money to run some television ads.
