The Food Uniformity Act would wipe out more
than 200 food safety laws in all 50 states.
Take action before September 29th to tell
Congress NO on the "Uniformity for Food Act."

With more than 100 people falling ill from fresh
spinach contaminated with E. coli bacteria, it's clear
that the government could do more to protect the safety
of our food.
So why is Congress doing exactly the opposite,
proposing a bill that would do away with many of the
state laws and regulations that protect the safety of
our food?

Congress NO on the "Uniformity for Food Act."

The "Uniformity for Food Act" is an industry-sponsored
bill that leaves out the important protections certain
states already have in place. If passed, states that
wanted to keep tougher standards for food labeling
would need approval from the Food and Drug
Administration, the same body that has come under fire
for mislabeling organic milk and has been slow to issue
consumer warnings.
This bill would eliminate many local and state
labeling requirements, such as those for foods or
beverages made with genetically modified organisms,
Monsanto's recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH),
or with ingredients that increase your risk of cancer,
birth defects, allergic reactions and mercury poisoning
when consumed.
In total, The Food Uniformity Act would wipe out more
than 200 laws in all 50 states, many of which have
HIGHER safety standards than those outlined in the
Food Uniformity Act!
Fortunately, the bill still isn't law. Although it
passed the House in March, we have a good chance of
defeating it in the Senate. With ever-growing
opposition, (including 21 Senators, 39 state Attorney
Generals, the Association of Food and Drug Officials,
the National Association of State Departments of
Agriculture, several governors, and a host of
consumer, public health, and environmental groups)
this bill can be defeated.
Don't let Senate end their session on September 29th
without shutting down the Food Uniformity Act! Sign
