This is a three part BBC series of one hour segments that you can
watch on google video if you have a broadband connection. I highly
recommend it; a must watch series in my opinion to understand current
politics and the war. There are a hundred or more clips and
interviews with officials in the series.

It is subtitled "The Rise of the Politics of Fear" and is basically
about how the neo-conservatives grouped around the American Standard
got power in the United States under Reagan to fight against the
Soviet Union in Afghanistan, extending their power under Casey and
the CIA, failed to discredit Clinton (until Monica), and then got
control again under a weak president, GWBush. And used their
influence under Bush to create a new enemy to replace the Soviet
Union as a way to defeat secular liberalism.

It has numerous clips of Bin Laden and Zawhari and explains their
role in promoting Islamic fundamentalism, their failure to inspire
Islamic revolutions in the Arab countries and their turn toward
terrorist attacks in the West. And how Bush and Blair have used the
9/11 attack to exaggerate and magnify the threats to create an
atmosphere of domestic fear to subsequently justify the war on Iraq.

It ends a few years ago (2003-4?) but thoroughly debunks phony
threats behind the war on terror like the existence of al Queda
terror cells in the US and britain. A nuclear expert testifies that
dirty bombs represent little real threat, etc.

I welcome other comments and second opinions. I think you'll like
this series.
