Not so much political, but some cool links nevertheless. The recommended Rolling Stone has been out for two weeks, so grab it fast...

Of course, the hippie era a decade later was more our scene Not sure how many here, if any, are looking forward to a movie adaptation to Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test", but these Haight-Ashbury, Summer of Love, etc sites ( scroll to bottom ) that seem to be popping up for the 40th anniversery are pretty colorful...

This looks interesting, with Summer of Love looked at in 40th anniversary nostalgia, Gus Van Sant is going to do an adaptation of the ultimate hippie document, Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test". I wonder who they will get to play Neil Cassidy and Ken Kesey, etc.

I've always been off and on for Van Sant, but this minimalist trip he's been in the last few years is intriguing. I finally got around to seeing "Last Days" last year or so, long after it's brief run at the Angelika, and it was very interesting and funny, and "Paranoid Park" got good response at Cannes. So I'm thinking he should do something very good with this period piece. I hope.

One thing that I just noticed on IMDB...they are saying that Van Sant has 3 in-development credits only available on IMDBpro. Has anyone else noticed this???? I certainly hope they are not making it where you now have to be a subscriber to access many normal features on IMDB!! Just the principle of the thing.

I could list a bunch of Summer of love sites popping up now in remembrance, but just a few. This first one, the official Haight-Ashbury area site, I actually discovered earlier in the year for someone who is moving to San Francisco in a few months. You gotta love the absolute groovy design and graphics. Others are a few articles that have come out in the last few weeks, including the site for the PBS "American Experience" thing that ran about two months back or so that I missed. Did anyone see that? Should come out on DVD eventually, I would guess. Also the great Charles Perry book on it all that came out about 25 years ago, that's still in print...

Also, this week's Rolling Stone has a wonderful 40th anniversary issue totally dedicated to that whole summer. And wisely not just the Haight-Ashbury scene in San Francisco where it started, but other diverse scenes in LA, New York, Detroit, London, etc...
